Upcoming Events (May)

Union Supporter appreciation grill

The Santa Barbara officers of UAW 2865 are throwing a grill to show their appreciation for all the support our members have given us over the years.  If you’ve ever signed a petition, come to a membership meeting, or voted in an election you’re a supporter and we want to give you booze and food.

The grill will be held at 230 W Mission on Saturday, May 19th.  We’ll start at around 6:00, and go until late.

May Membership Meeting

We’ll be having our monthly membership meting on Wednesday, May 16th at 3:00 in the union office at 6551 Trigo Rd. (right above Bagel Café).  This is a great opportunity to meet campus officers, get involved in your union, and get help with any problems in your department.  Topics of discussion will include the bargaining survey for our next contract, the status of the bill for Research Assistant collective bargaining rights, and any particular issues TA’s, tutors, or readers are having at UCSB.

Other important news / events

  • Help get out the vote!  We’ve endorsed a number of candidates running in the June 5th election, including Doreen Farr and Hannah-Beth Jackson.  If you would like to help with these efforts, contact us at santabarbara@uaw2865.org.
  • Make sure you are registered to vote.  Check your voter registration status at www.sbcassessor.com/AMIRegistered/.  You must register fifteen days before the election.  If you’re a TA, please encourage your students to check their voter registration status as well.
  • The ballot initiative we endorsed, which raises income tax on people making over 250k a year and puts that revenue into public education, has achieved the necessary number of signatures!  No other ballot initiative has gotten so many signatures this quickly, which speaks to its widespread popularity.
